“Mrs. Welker”, or “AW”, was a beloved choral music and private voice teacher to many students spanning from Williamsport to Wallenpaupack over her 36-year career.

Alice made her teaching debut at Stevens Jr. High and then Roosevelt Jr. High in Williamsport and served as the Musical Director for shows at The Community Theater League. She was a past president of the Williamsport Music Club.

After moving to Lake Wallenpaupack in 1984, she conducted many honors music festivals during her tenure and received a Citation of Excellence in 1998 from the PA Music Educators Association. Alice was a past conductor for the Wayne Choralaires community choir and arranged for them to sing back up for Rosemary Clooney’s Christmas concert in Scranton. She also volunteered at The Ritz Company Playhouse in Hawley and helped with auditions for the young performers in the “Ritz Bitz” shows.

A beloved teacher, she kept in touch with many of her former students and came to see their performances whenever she could.

Alice left an indelible mark on so many and she will be dearly missed by all who loved her. Donations to the Alice Welker Musical Legacy Fund will go to support music and the performing arts in Wayne County and surrounding communities, as well as provide a scholarship to the graduating senior from Wallenpaupack Area High School with the highest grade average in Band and Choir (to be determined by WAHS choir and/or band director each year.)
